Envy’s Manifestation in Individuals and Couples:
Implications for Imago Therapy

This article integrates the concept of envy into Imago Relationship Therapy’s formulation of the power struggle. Defense mechanisms, character styles, the literature on envy, and object relations theory are drawn upon to describe how envy manifests in individuals and couples. Six hypothetical case examples serve as illustrations of the dynamics of envy in couples.
