PROVIDING A HOLDING ENVIRONMENT FOR RECOVERY:
COMBINING PSYCHODYNAMIC AND ADDICTIONS THEORY AND PRACTICE

Monday, September 10, 2007
7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Workshop Description
Jan Link will present on working with addiction.  The presentation will look at how we hold the best of two seemingly different worlds together to help patients suffering from addiction.  The talk will center around the ways in which certain key concepts from "Recovery Work" interweave with aspects of Psychodynamic theory, especially "Object Relations."

There will also be a brief overview of some recent findings regarding the science of addiction.

To honor an old tradition in Psychodynamic explorations, excerpts will be used from literature.  Passages from The Tennis Partner, Abraham Verghese, will highlight some of the confusing, frustrating, and even predictable results of a disease which, too often, can cause utter devastation.
